FAQS

What is the recommended tire pressure for my vehicle, and how often should I check it?

The recommended tire pressure for your vehicle can typically be found in the owner's manual or on a label inside the driver's door jamb. It's essential to check your tire pressure at least once a month and before long trips. Proper tire pressure ensures even wear, better fuel efficiency, and optimal handling, contributing to your safety on the road.

What's the difference between all-season and winter tires, and when should I consider switching to winter tires?

All-season tires are designed to perform well in various weather conditions, including light snow. Winter tires, on the other hand, have a specific tread pattern and rubber compound for superior traction in cold and snowy conditions. It's recommended to switch to winter tires when temperatures consistently drop below 45°F (7°C) to ensure better grip and control on icy or snowy roads.

How can I tell if my tires are worn out and need replacement?

You can perform a simple visual inspection and the "Penny Test" to check your tire tread. Place a penny into the tread grooves with Lincoln's head facing down. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, your tire treads are too shallow and need replacement. Additionally, look for signs of uneven wear, cracking, or bulging on the sidewalls. If you notice any of these issues, it's time to consult a professional for a thorough assessment and possible tire replacement.

I just need some parts sandblasted.  Is that something Victory Fab & Powder Coat can do even if I don’t want my parts powder coated?

Yes! We offer standalone sandblasting services as well as for powder coating pre-treatment.

Do you do metal plating or anodizing?

No, we do not offer metal plating or anodizing services. We focus on being really good at sandblasting and powder coating.

Do you have minimum charge?

While certain items have standard prices, each project is unique and all projects depend on a variety of factors to determine the final price.

Keep in mind that with individual smaller parts you're paying more for the labor, handling, setup, and overhead than you are the actual powder. (So, a single paper clip will cost the same to coat as a single coat hanger.)

What is the best way to get a quote for my project/job?

Click the "Get an Estimate" button at the top of your screen and fill out the form, including:

- a photo of your project's item(s) or part(s)

- dimensions of the item(s)

- quantity of item(s)

- type of metal (i.e. steel, aluminum, etc.)

- thickness of metal

- color request

(All of these items are required on the Estimate Request and an estimate cannot be provided without all of them. If you would like to discuss something else or don't have all of the details, please submit the Contact form.)

What is your turnaround time?

Generally, our turnaround time is approximately 2 weeks (give or take a few days).

Turnaround times are determined by project and we will provide you with an estimate prior to beginning work. However, these are estimates and are subject to change depending on our current work load, which fluctuates from week to week. We will keep you updated if there are any delays, and we are always a call away if you want to check in.

Can you expedite my project?

Expediting projects depends on your project needs and our current commitments to our other clients - and, is at our discretion. In certain situations we can expedite jobs for an additional fee. (Usually the higher of a $100 flat fee -OR- 20% of the total cost.) We will always do the best we can to meet your needs.

Please know that there are some things that we WILL NOT rush.  We have a reputation for high quality work (and, we expect that of ourselves), so we WILL NOT compromise on quality or integrity in order to rush a project.

Can you guys put decals on something and then clear coat it?

While we do offer clear powder coating, part of the process is still oven curing. Unfortunately, most decals don't fare well in ovens and would shrivel up, which would then also ruin the coating. So, no... we cannot powder coat (even clear) over decals.

(For this project, you'll want to find someone licensed to provide a clear coat wet/spray paint. Due to the significant quality differences between spray painting and powder coating, we specialize in the latter. More information about these differences are listed on our home page.)

Can you powder coat my after-market chrome wheels to repair the flaking, peeling, and/or corroded chrome?

Yes, we can powder coat your wheels. However, we can't pre-treat them.

Generally, it is very difficult to get chrome to last on aluminum wheels. And, winter road salts make the problem even worse.  Unfortunately, it is usually impossible to abrasive blast the failed chrome off without damaging the aluminum itself.  Consequently, we recommend that the wheels be taken to a chrome plater to have the chrome and nickel chemically removed before bringing them to us for powder coating.

Can you powder coat the lug nuts on my car?

The question isn't CAN this be done, but SHOULD this be done.

Yes, we CAN powder coat your lug nuts. BUT, they may not fit in your lug nut socket any more.  To get an effective corrosion protection on steel lug nuts, the powder needs to go on with a dry film thickness of between .003" and .006".  That means the overall size of your lug nut may increase as much as .012", which is more than the clearance between the nut and some sockets.

We generally recommend people look to see if they can buy lug nuts in the color they desire, as those manufactured to be coated are made undersize to allow for the thickness of the coating.

Do you recommend clear coating over bare steel?

When you're looking to subtly preserve your bare steel and stop the rust and mill scale, we recommend powder coating with a gray powder coat. Here's why:

Prior to applying the powder coat, the surface would have to be pre-treated by sandblasting in order to ensure the best powder adhesion. (And, thus, provide the preservation you're looking for.) However, sandblasting leaves bare steel a dull gray color that most people don't find very attractive. Additionally, we don't recommend clear coats for any exterior use, because many clear coats are not UV stable.

We have several colors that give the clear-coated bare steel look that you're looking for. Click the "Get an Estimate" button, above, to submit your project information and we'll get together to show you the best options for your project.

Can you put a two-color coating on my part? Or, add artwork like flames or pinstripes?

In some cases we do coat more than one color. Please click the "Get an Estimate" button above and complete the Estimate Request form to see if this option is available for your project.

Unfortunately, we don't do artwork (like flames or pinstripes), because these jobs require masking to protect the areas not being coated. (High temperature masking materials are not flexible enough to bend around complex designs and must be cut like a stencil, making it time consuming and cost prohibitive.) Additionally, the thickness of the powder coat causes distinct edges at the borders between colors. While there are techniques to address this issue, they add to the complexity and, thus, cost prohibitive nature of the project.

Do we really have to pre-treat my item if it's in really good shape and clean?

While powder coating over an item that has not undergone proper pre-treatment may appear to be high-quality, the powder will chip and corrode easily.
